DESCRIPTION:Understanding how scams work\, and knowing how to avoid them\, can help protect consumers from falling victim. As part of its twentieth anniversary celebration\, the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Saratoga Springs will offer a program on Identity Theft\, Senior Scams and Cybersecurity. This very special lunch and learn event will take place on Friday\, April 19\, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at SUNY Empire State College\, Room 143\, 113 West Avenue\, Saratoga Springs. Melanie Grossman\, Outreach Coordinator for the New York Department of State's Division of Consumer Protection will offer tips on how to respond when your identity or financial accounts have been compromised.  In addition\, she will explain how to spot a scam and what to do if you have been victimized.  Scammers use creative approaches to encourage consumers to part with their hard-earned money and/or their personally identifying information. Understanding how scams work\, and knowing how to avoid them\, can help protect consumers from falling victim. She will also present the latest information about cybersecurity. Come\, bring your brown bag lunch and learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones. No reservations are necessary.  Sponsored by SUNY Empire State College and affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network\, the Academy for Lifelong Learning offers non-credit academic study groups as well as social and leadership opportunities for older learners.
