More than five decades ago Lena and Bill Spencer opened the doors of their brand new coffeehouse at 47 Phila Street, inviting curious Saratogians to experience the folk music that was all the rage in Boston, Greenwich Village, and San Francisco. The Spencers never expected that one day their Caffe would be considered a national treasure, with fans around the world. Taking center stage at our birthday party is Lena Spencer's personal favorite, Michael Cooney. Lena named Michael the One Man Folk Festival. With his entertaining stories, expansive repertoire, and multi-instrumental skills, Michael is a true blue ambassador for the timeless folk music that has delighted Caffe audiences since 1960. Enjoy delicious edibles and an intimate evening of song as we blow out 52 candles and raise funds to take us to 53!
