Introduction to Studio Lighting - 01/17/2014

Learn to take pictures the way the pros do

Shooting in a studio gives you complete control of the lighting of your subjects.  It is not as difficult as it appears, and once you understand the basics, can be much more accommodating than outdoor locations.  You can get hard and soft light, various angles, backgrounds, light balances, etc.  and most of the concepts are translatable to your own speedlights (i.e. off-camera flashes).

At the end of the session we will stick around for you to experiment.  Invite any friends or family who may want head shots or portraits.

What you will learn:
  • The various types of lighting and modifiers, and how they affect the quality of light
  • How to use a light meter, and why it is more useful in the studio than your camera's meter
  • The basic lighting arrangements to start experimenting from
  • How to translate the concepts to your own speedlights when you are out in the field, or in your own home,
